coastal zone

The term 'coastal zone' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' the land-sea-air interface zone around continents and islands extending from the landward edge of a barrier beach or shoreline of coastal bay to the outer extent of the continental shelf'.

The term 'coastal zone' as it applies to the area of carbon dioxide can be defined as ' Lands and waters adjacent to the coast that exert an influence on the uses of the sea and its ecology or whose uses and ecology are affected by the sea'.
